A vigorous variety with a lovely upright habit with very uniform leaves with intense red veining. Likes a rich, moisture retentive soil. Dig in compost or manure the previous autumn or add a general fertiliser. Lime the soil if the pH is lower than 6.5. Sow direct 1cm (1/2″) deep. Space at 5cm (2″) apart. When large enough to handle thin to 15-25cm (6-10″) spacing. If you thin when plants are approx. 15cm high you can use the thinnings as a salad leaf. Rows 45cm (18″) apart.
