High Tensile Bow Nuts – Metric & BSW Details Manufactured from high tensile steel generally to BS3974 (part 1=1974) standards to ensure consistent sizing and quality. Supplied in a self-coloured finish as standard, providing a natural, untreated appearance. Electro-galvanised finishes are available upon request, offering enhanced corrosion resistance. An EC Declaration of Conformity certification comes as standard with all high tensile bow nuts. This confirms compliance with relevant European directives and quality requirements, providing assurance of regulatory compliance and suitability for use throughout the European market. These high tensile bow nuts have a great safety factor which equates to the minimum breaking load = 5 times the stated safe working load. You should, however, never exceed the stated SWL. Bow Nut Sizes Available The Metric sized bow nuts are available in a range of thread diameters starting at 8mm and extending up to 36mm. The safe working load range starts at 0.23 ton and goes up to 5.34 ton. When it comes to the BSW Whitworth type the sizes differ slightly due to the measuring type. Thread diameters range from ¾ inch up to 1 ½ inches, with SWL from 0.25 ton up to 4.75 ton. You must ensure the thread on the bolt where you are to install the bow nut is of the same thread type. Never use a metric thread product with a BSW thread product; they will not fit securely!
